Small Grants Programme

We typically accept applications for grants of up to £500, from District Nurses, Health Visitors, Professional Carers or Health Care Professionals, relatives or friends, on behalf of a person identified as having a need.

We are only able to support people who are resident in, or are a patient of a medical practitioner, or are domiciled in a health institution in the City of Brighton & Hove.

We are also able to support nurses or health care professionals, who are engaged in domiciliary nursing in the area, or to retired domiciliary nurses.

We do not generally support ongoing costs or make a commitment to repeated funding requests.

We can only provide grants for individuals who are both sick and in financial need and you must therefore be able to provide evidence to support these requirements.

We generally accept applications from health care professionals on behalf of a patient. We may consider applications from patients or their families or friends, but would seek to make a payment directly to a supplier for items requested, rather than making a payment to an individual.

Examples of items/services we have funded in the past include:

  • A washing machine for a family who were caring for an incontinent relative
  • A fridge for a family caring for a sick child
  • A bed for an elderly gentleman who otherwise could not have been discharged from hospital
  • A six month gym membership for a gentlemen recovering from a cardiac condition
  • A contribution to a robotic arm for a lady diagnosed with MND.
